how does your garden grow?
Sunday, April 22, 2012 @ 10:07 PM

Stop what you're doing and look at these fucking tomatoes.

Seriously, LOOK AT THEM.

Given, they're all sandy from the plant having fallen on the ground (staked it today though, so no worries!) but my, aren't they beautiful? There's just something about growing something yourself that makes you appreciate it even more (like your own kids, I suppose ;D). I mean I know they're not ready to eat yet (the tomatoes, not the kids! I'm not a monster!) --unless you're into fried green tomatoes, which I'm not-- but the anticipation alone is overwhelming. I literally will not eat a slicing tomato unless it's a homegrown one. I'm spoiled on them! The difference is astounding. If you've never had a homegrown tomato, then I really don't know what you're doing with your life.

As for the rest of my garden, it's actually progressing nicely too! Now, the weather isn't loving the cabbages or romaine lettuce, but I knew it was too hot to put it in. I just did it because my parents gave me the plants and I figured why not? But when I pull those up, I'll get in my melons and expand to add corn. And the other crops are doing WAY better than last year. It really does pay to get them in early and to do things right. I can only imagine how beautiful my garden would be if I had done everything organic and had access to loads of compost and fresh rainwater. But either way, very pleased with the way things are going so far.
